Actual health conditions of self-employed persons seen from Zenshoren Kyosaikai Death Payment. Death payment requests were made by 142 people (102 men, 40 women) of the association in full month of December 1997. Viewed according to age, illness, occupation, during the period (cited below) from first medical examination to death.
- Age Trends
- In their 30's - 3 men: the youngest one was 33 years old with stomach cancer; a 35 year-old with B type and C type hepatitis; a 38 year-old with acute myocardial infarction. Periods to death were within 1 year.
- In their 40's - 7 men and 4 women: Many malignant tumors caused death in both men and women. Periods to death were 1 year and a half or less. Aside from tumors were acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, etc.
- In their 50's - 44 men died in their 50's (43%), and 13 women (33%): Half of the men had tumorous conditions; liver disease claimed 7 people; heart disease - 6 people; cerebral accident - 5 people, etc. As for women, cancer claimed 10 (77%).
- In their 60's - 38 men, and 13 women died - second in number of deaths
to the 50's cohort: The disease trends resemble the 50's cohort. As for
cancer in men, lung cancer claimed 8 people, and malignant diseases around 40%.
- In their 70's - 8 men, 7 women: 4 men died from lung diseases - more than cancer.
- Mortality Trends
- Malignant (tumorous) disease: men 48 people (48%), women 26 people(62%).
Areas are, in order of incidence: men - lungs (12), stomach (9), liver
- large intestine (6), pancreas (3); women - breast (6), stomach (4),womb (4), large intestine (3), etc.
Period: over 2 years are very few and much in the minority with 3 people; All lung cancer patients are within 2 years; overall, 9 of 13 patients died within half a year.
- Acute myocardial infarction, all 8 incidences were men from their 30's to 60's - 3 of them dying during the day of onset.
- Cerebral accidents were 9 men, 2 women. Falling, many person passed away while hospitalized.
- In other diseases, notable are liver disease for men (8), and lung diseases (7).
- Occupational Trends
Men, in order: production processing, construction, service, eating and drinking, retail distribution.
Women, in order: construction, retail distribution, service, eating and drinking, production processing.
No age distribution difference among jobs.
Disease, there are many malignant diseases in the production among men(69%). Eating and drinking and the brain/heart show a relation 7 people(64%). There are many liver diseases in construction. There is much cancer in each sort of occupation among women.
- Characteristics from first medical examination to death
Conveyed after death were 4 people, heart failure 2, acute myocardial infarction 1.
Dying in one day were 5 people. Cerebral accident - 3. Within a day were 5 people. Brain/heart were 4 people.
To this point in our study results, total were 14 people, those in their 50's are half.
Within one month were 26 people (18%).
Within three months were 37 people (26%). Characteristic of the diseases,that there are many more brain/heart diseases than cancer (54%). Within one month died by cancer 4 people (liver 3). It is conspicuous the delay of discovery.
Within 6 months death total is 58 people (41%).
Within 1 year total 87 people (61%).
Within 2 years total is 107 people (75%).
As an overview, the period from first medical examination to death is:within half year 40%, within one year 60%: patients die young. Including woman, although a malignant disease is a high rate, this background, taking health examine rate is low, not easy to take close examination because of duty etc. can guess from "100,000 people surveys" etc. To defend the health of the self-employed person, expansion of the opportunity of health examining, It was the result that suggests to expand the medical examination opportunity, the need of the policy of "Comprehensive Compensation to National Insurance" that makes easy to go medical institution etc.
